Healthy
Breakfast
During
our annual “Healthy Breakfast Day” we learned it is imperative that every
student eats a well-balanced and nutritious diet. Breakfast is an important
part of that plan because food is the fuel that provides our students with
the necessary energy to focus and learn. According to a recent article in
PSBA Bulletin, evidence is increasing to support the view that children who
eat breakfast perform better at school.
Breakfast:
· Improves children’s
classroom performance, including better test scores and grades.
· Increases children’s
ability to focus and concentrate on school work.
· Decreases behavior
problems, tardiness and visits to the school nurse.
· Boosts attendance rates.
· Lowers fat intake and
limits snacking over the rest of the day.
· Is a habit of kids who
have a healthy weight.
If
having breakfast at your home is difficult to accomplish on a school morning,
your child can now buy a breakfast at Beaver Creek at 8:30 a.m. for just
$1.00. Students in the free and
reduced lunch program do qualify for the breakfast program as well. The National School Breakfast Program is
designed to meet one fourth of students’ daily needs for key nutrients. We
are averaging 20 students a day who participate in our new breakfast program.
Please join us whenever you need to. You do not need to sign up in advance or
follow any sort of participation schedule.
